The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Thursday announced its adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate.
The development follows just days after the leader of the People’s Party of Nigeria, Kelvin Allagoa, stepped down for the country’s president.
Speaking during a press conference in Lagos, party chairman Boniface Anieboman said that the party’s main reason for adopting Jonathan was for the sake of continuity.
Anieboman revealed that the party had fielded candidate from 23 states of the federation and had found Jonathan to be the most suitable candidate.
Anieboman said that the party is not questioning any other candidate’s credibility but feels that continuity is what is needed in the country at the current time.
The NNPP has urged Nigerians to vote for the current administration in order for its mandate to be fully recognized.
