The Emir of Bukkuyum in Zamfara State, Alhaji Muhammad Usman, was on
Friday evening kidnapped by unknown gunmen at a mosque adjacent his
palace in Bukkuyum local government area of the state.
Kabir Muhammad, a younger brother to the Emir, who is an eye witness, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the kidnappers drove in an ash colour Honda Civic car heavily armed and headed towards the Emir who was then sitting outside the mosque waiting for the time for the late night prayers.
According to Kabir: “As I was sitting a few metres away from the Emir, I heard the gunmen rudely commanding him to stand up and enter their vehicle”.
When he noticed a suspicious unruly behaviour by the unknown people, he said: “I swiftly jumped to protect him but two of the gunmen pushed me away and the rest began shooting indiscriminately into the air”.
He said he and other people who rushed to the scene were forced at gun point to lay on the ground while the Emir was forced into the waiting vehicle and from then, they went into the mosque and collected all the cell phones they placed on charging.
“As they drove away, the search for the emir began immediately and just as the news of the incidence spreads rapidly within the community, everyone became involved in the search for the Emir”.
Confirming the incident, the secretary to the Emir, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammed Bukkuyum, who is also the Emir’s younger brother, said many people in Bukkuyum could not sleep as they spent the whole night searching for him but according to him, “On the following morning, the gunmen used one of the phones they carried away and gave it to the Emir to talk to his family”.

He said the Emir told his family that he was alive but could not say where he was at the moment as he was blindfolded on the way.
The chairman, Council of Chiefs and the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, told our LEADERSHIP Sunday that all the relevant security agencies were informed about the development.
