‘Lack Of Continuity, Bane Of Our Development’

Yusuf
Alhaji Aminu Yusuf (Talban Wushishi) is the secretary, Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the director-general of Umar Nasko Campaign Organisation. In this interview with journalists, he speaks on the party’s achievements in the state and the chances of Nasko in the forthcoming governorship election. bode Gbadebo was there for LEADERSHIP.

What are your party’s chances in the forthcoming general elections?
PDP is doing very well in Niger State. Since its inception, the people of the state have wholeheartedly embraced it and till date, no force has been able to shake it. Definitely, this 2015 isn’t going to be the year in which it will get shaken.

Why are you so confident?
I’m confident because the party has been doing very well in terms of touching people’s lives as well as taking the dividends of democracy to them. I have been in PDP since its inception in 1999 and we are the pioneers of the party in Niger State because I contested for the chairmanship of Wushishi local government area in 1999 and won; I was there for three years.
When the government of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu came, I became the state party secretary. Being the Secretary of the party in the state, I know what we have been able to achieve, especially in the area of security; you can see Niger is one of the most peaceful states in the country now. Everybody can testify to what I am saying, and we are happy about it.
Secondly, everybody knows how the government of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has been non-tribalistic since it came on board. If you are residing in Niger State, you get all the privileges the indigenes get, unlike other states. For example, education is free for the indigenes of the state, and the same thing applies to the non-indigenes. So many non-indigenes residents in Niger are always lauding the Chief Servant’s pan-Nigerianism, and they still want it to continue even after his tenure. Coming to infrastructural development, the government has ensured that development reaches every ward in the state by creating a programme called Ward Development Project. In this programme, each ward is given N1million every month to carry out developmental projects in its communities. This has proliferated social amenities in all the wards. Just imagine what could be achieved with N1million every month with the several months that the Chief Servant has been on board apart from the projects the state has been executing out directly.
