INEC Officials, Materials, Security Personnel Arrive Polling Centres on Time In Edo

INEC personnel and electoral materials arrived in time in most of the 192 polling units across the 18 local government areas of Edo for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the elections in the three senatorial districts of the state observed that the INEC staff were at the various polling centres as early as 8 a.m. stipulated by the guidelines.
It was observed that there was a large turnout of voters with the presence of security personnel conspicuous at the different polling centres. At ward 3, in Oredo council, Ward 1 in Ovia North East; Ugbekun Primary School, Ward 7 in Ikpoba Okha all in Edo South Senatorial District; Wards 4 and 10, Sabogida-Ora, in Owan West; Ward 1, at Afuze in Owan East and Ward 10 in Iyamho Primary school in Estako West of Edo North, accreditation started at at 8: 30 a.m.
In Edo Central Senatorial District, some of the areas visited by NAN correspondents included wards 2, 3, 4 and 7, where voter turnout was impressive and INEC officials were on ground. The electroral officer in Esan North East, Mr Lebari Ndu, said materials were dispatched to the various polling units as early as 5 p.m. to ensure a hitch free election. NAN also observed that except for some minor hitches, the card readers were functioning well.
The machines could not capture the finger print of some voters in wards 1 and 5 in Ovia North East and Oredo council areas. However, an INEC official, Mr Godwin Egbeyemi, said voters would be allowed to cast their votes as soon as they filled the incidents form and their names verified from the voters’ register.(NAN)
