Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan
receives the sum of one million dollars monthly from the governorship
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief
Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike.
Amaechi disclosed this at the weekend while speaking at Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre local government area of the state, during a special praise and worship session organised by the Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) and the Ikwerre Women Forum (IWF).
The governor said, “Do you know that the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Nyesom Wike has been giving one million dollars monthly to the wife of the president, Mrs Patience Jonathan? He has been doing this to gain political favour in the Presidency and to retain the favour.
“For eight years our Okrika brother (Senator George Sekibo) has been occupying the Senate(Rivers East) seat and now it is the turn of an Ikwerre son.
but, Nyesom Wike has gone ahead to accept another four years for George Thompson Sekibo. This is not acceptable, Chief Andrew Uchendu will take over this time, one man called Nyesom Wike cannot sell Ikwerre birth right.”
He accused Wike of sponsoring the killing of an APC member who was shot dead recently in the home town of the PDP gubernatorial flag bearer, and accused the police of bias as it could not arrest the PDP hoodlums who committed the murder.
Amaechi’s Allegation Ridiculous, Absurd-Patience Jonathan
First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has described as ridiculous and absurd the allegation by Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi that the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Nyesom Wike had been giving her $1million monthly.
Mrs Jonathan who spoke to LEADERSHIP through her media assistant, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi said she understood opposition’s antics clearly, which is “to raise dust and create an offensive atmosphere for people to bandy words with them”.
Adewuyi noted that “although the allegation is such that could alarm a novice in the politics of desperation being played by the opposition in Nigeria, it is too outlandish and too pedestrian for the First Lady to respond to”.
“It is ridiculous, absurd and laughable, it is another attempt at their hate campaign”, he stated, adding that “it cast a spell in the eyes of even the ordinary man to imagine that a former minister of state who may have sacrificed his financial fortune politicking to clinch the governorship seat of his state would have that kind of money to give another person on a monthly basis”.
Adewuyi further said it would be left for Nigerians to cross-properly whether the Rivers governor “still has the integrity a leader who occupies such an exalted office should have, judging by the kind of falsehood and indecency that characterize his type of politics.
“But next time he (Amaechi) comes up with the kind of allegation that is worth reacting to, we would be too willing to make him feel elated with a response”.
