The #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG)
group has called on the Nigerian military to take seriously the threat
made by the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau and work towards
neutralising the threat and protecting the lives of Nigerians.
Speaking during its sit-out, one of the members of the group, Ibrahim Wala stated that as a person from the North East, he took Shekau’s threat seriously because he has seen many killings and destruction of property by the Boko Haram and urged the military to fulfill its responsibility to the citizens.
“We call on the military to neutralise the threat.
The authority should take note. Most people might be scared to come out and vote. It is left for the military to help us. They should not take the threat lightly but should do something about the it and protect our people,” he said.
Also, Senator Ali Ndume, who has become a member of the BBOG, urged the North East residents not to be bothered by the threat of Shekua as the people are already tired of the current situation and are ready to sacrifice their lives for a change.
The group also called on Nigerians to be careful as they move around urging them to be vigilant and not take the threat lightly.
Recall that Shekau had in a new video released Tuesday, vowed to disrupt the upcoming general election, threatening that the election will not be held.
Also recall that the general election had been scheduled for February 14 but was postponed by six weeks, with the security services saying they needed more time to contain the violence in the North East, Boko Haram’s stronghold.
However, the director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, who reacted to Shekau’s threat of causing mayhem during the 2015 general election assured that the military is poised to secure Nigeria during and after the elections.
General Olukolade stated that no amount of threat will deter the military’s operations from taking place in the North East or anywhere in the country.
