Police in Nasarawa on Sunday
arrested 14 suspected youths for burning down the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) local government secretariat in Obi town of Obi Local
Government Area of Nasara wa State, two days after the party held its
2015 general elections campaign in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, who confirmed the incident, said 18 suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime.
Impeccable sources in the area said the act was carried out on Saturday night saying people of the area woke up to the unfortunate incident Sunday morning.
It was learnt that the incident was a spillover of the clash between the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday where gunshots were exchanged and casualties with machete cuts recorded on both sides.
One witness, Ibrahim Kasimu, said the incident started when youths suspected to be APC supporters began to destroy canopies and chairs used by the PDP during a campaign rally in Obi Local Government Area.
