The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sulaimon Lasun
has explained that lawmakers do not receive funds for projects located
in their constituencies.
This, he said, is contrary to general conceptions.
Lasun, speaking on Monday when he received the Yoruba Community in the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in his office in Abuja, added that the
funds for the execution of constituency projects are handled by the
Presidency.
"We don't get cash for any constituency project. Once a lawmaker
suggests a project, the execution of such projects is the prerogative of
the Executive branch," he said.
Speaking on other issues, Lasun lamented that most industries located
in the South West region of the country are in bad states.
He harped on the necessity on reviving such industries for employment generation.
The President General of the group, Mr. Toye Oguntuyi congratulated the
Deputy Speaker on his election and urged him to properly represent the
interests of the Yorubas.
He stated that a vote of confidence has been passed on the Deputy Speaker by the Yoruba community resident in the FCT.
