An anti – examination fraud task force recently set up by the Delta State Government to check illicit activities of examination fraudsters across the State, have arrested 61 suspected fraudsters including closing down four miracle centers in Obiaruku and Asaba.

Delta state has been under siege of Exam fraudsters who also operate various miracle centers where unsuspecting SSCE students are wooed into writing their examination under fraudulent supervision to make the best results.
But the State Commissioner for basic and secondary education, Dr Tony Nwaka, told our correspondent that the days of fraudsters were numbered, adding that the suspects were nabbed on a tip-off, especially in their alleged extortion centres.
The commissioner said that examination monitoring was an integral part in the conduct of any examination, adding that the Uduaghan led administration had ensured its sustenance in order to meet the dream of conducting Examinations that are free of irregularities in the school system and making Delta State an Examination ethics friendly state.
Speaking further, Dr Nwaka disclosed that the suspects will be handed over to the police for further prosecution, adding that the State Government will do everything possible to stamp out miracle centres in the State.
He however called on examination monitors and marshals to improve on past records by evaluating the past experiences and mapping out strategies to unravel and combat emerging techniques of perpetuating examination malpractice, especially in notorious centres and also called on stakeholders to make concerted efforts to actualize the goal, bearing in mind that examinations prone to malpractice produce false reports on the candidates.
Investigation revealed that operators of miracle centres woo SSCE student drop-outs to enrol with their schools, where they will be assured of passing their examination in flying colours.
While the operators prepare the students, they charge between N40, 000 and N50, 000 per student and in most cases train over 60-80 students every year during enrolment periods.
A parent who claimed to be unaware of her daughter’s enrolment at one of the closed miracle centres, and who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said “they took N100,000 from my daughter, yet she failed all her papers”. She thanked the State Government for proactive steps to stamp out miracle centres.
