
In a bid to ensure a smooth transition programme on May 29, President
Goodluck Jonathan has commenced wide consultations among stakeholders
in the country.
Accordingly, the president yesterday paid a private visit to former minister of defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, at his residence in Abuja.
After the meeting, Danjuma described Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat to Buhari as un-African and said the president had set a record in the history of the country.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not known as the two spoke behind closed doors, LEADERSHIP gathered that it was one of the private consultations the president had been holding with stakeholders in preparation for the transfer of the mantle of leadership to the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following his loss at the March 28 presidential and National Assembly polls, President Jonathan met with the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa last Friday to discuss issues of transition.
Speaking after the closed-door meeting, Danjuma said: “The outcome of the election and the manner in which President Jonathan conceded victory to Buhari is totally un-African; it is very important in the history of Africa.
“President Jonathan has set a history, a record to be emulated by the rest of Africa and, indeed, the whole world. It’s an excellent thing he did.
“I am confident that we would have a foul-free elections once the politicians campaign on issues not personalities and avoid anything capable of causing disaffection,” he said.
Buhari to reveal APC Job creation masterplan on May 29
Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko has said that President-elect Muhammadu Buhari will unfold the master plan on job creation and social security issues of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 29.
Wamakko disclosed this yesterday while addressing APC supporters during a visit in Tambuwal, headquarters of Tambuwal local government aea of the state.
He said that the master plan would also address the security concerns in the country.
The governor, who is also a senator-elect, said that the president-elect would ensure good governance through the implementation of people-oriented programmes designed to meet the yearnings of Nigerians.
He said that Buhari’s presidency would restore the confidence of Nigerians in governance through the implementation of programmes that would enhance the socio-economic and political development of the country.
“We as progressives are in the system to bring about a responsible change in all aspects of governance,” he said.
Wamakko noted that the Nigerian nation was blessed with abundant natural and human resources necessary for effective economic growth and development even as he expressed confidence that Nigeria under Buhari would achieve greatness.
Wamakko, however, called on the people of the area to come out en masse to vote in APC candidates in the April 11 state-level elections.
He commended APC supporters for defending their votes during the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections and urged them to do same on Saturday.
Wamakko gave the assurance that the APC-led administration would continue to initiate policies and programmes aimed at moving the state forward.
“We have done a lot in the areas of health care delivery, education, roads constriction, agriculture, job creation, among others,” he said, adding that the incoming administration would continue with the laudable programmes.
He also called on party supporters to shun violence and provocation in order to ensure peaceful conduct of the April 11 polls
