Unusual Times Require Bold Leadership

To match Interview NIGERIA-BUHARI/
Firstly, I will like to pay tribute to our men and women in the armed forces who are risking their lives to keep us safe and be united as a nation. My thoughts are with them and also with the families of the civilians who have been killed, injured or internally displaced by the act of the mindless and demented sect, called Boko Haram.

The general election is four weeks away, but the PDP are carrying on as if all is well or rosy. The PDP director of media and publicity for the re-election campaign team of their Presidential nominee has already gone into full gear. My friend is of course an effective political operator and prince of negative campaign. As the leader of the All Progressives Congress in the North East of England, I deem it imperative to warn my colleagues not to under estimate the PDP director of publicity. I will like to advise Governor Ameachi and Lai Mohammed, along with the recently constituted campaign team, to set up a swift rebuttal unit at central office, to rebuff any dirt that PDP will surely throw at us. This strategy will stifle and weaken PDP ability to negatively define our highly esteemed and decorated war hero (General Buhari) whose integrity is impeccable and beyond reproach. The swift rebuttal unit will ensure that our message to voters are not contradicted or diffused in any way by our opponents, and enable us to avoid the Michael Dukakis curve.
Our nation is facing uncertain times with worsening armed insurrection by Boko Haram in the North, economic kidnapping and political killing in the South and deteriorating economic climate. However, in 2011, the nation gave the PDP presidential candidate the mandate to protect the lives of her citizens and to defend her territorial boundaries. The PDP presidential nominee said in Ethiopia that his government had been fighting Boko Haram with kid’s gloves. This implies that the PDP Government has been sending ill-equipped soldiers to fight a well equipped, better resource and highly motivated terrorist group.
In a sudden announcement in November 2014, the Government military spokesman made a unilateral announcement to the world that after several months of negotiation, they have reached a cease fire agreement with Boko Haram. He went further and directed all military and paramilitary personnel to lay down their weapons. Within days of this announcement, Boko Haram released a video and set the record straight, by distancing themselves from any purported agreement. Of course what followed was predictable, carnage and slaughter of civilians and military forces by Boko Haram. This was indeed a great embarrassment, incompetence and recklessness on the part of the PDP Presidential nominee.
Despite these failures, the PDP presidential nominee is back again, asking for new mandate to continue in office as the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces. Nigerians are more discerning and sophisticated than PDP would like to believe. Nigerians will not vote for a president that failed to protect the citizens and defend the Nation territorial boundaries. They will also not for a President who deliberately refused to visit towns and villages of terror blast and to feel their pain and show solidarity to the victims. On 11th January 2015, as we all know, World Leaders gathered in Paris to show solidarity to the people of France after the terror attack.
As for the issue of corruption, The PDP presidential nominee said that his way of fighting corruption is to design the technology that will stop corruption. Given that the PDP administration has always insisted that they adopt international best practice in the management of various government departments. Then, their presidential nominee can tell the Nation if this approach to fighting corruption is evidence based. And if so, can he also name one country that adopts this approach without the use of criminal sanction. It is indeed well know that the PDP way of fighting corruption is by giving amnesty to the moneybags and political contractors, if and when they are cut in the act, or alternatively, by instructing the EFCC to discontinue with any legal action against the moneybags after a quid pro quo have been agreed.
In his campaign train to Lagos, the PDP presidential nominee said to the Nation that Henry Okah was paid to kill him. What was however so glaringly absent in the speech was the failure to tell the Nation who the alleged culprits were. This kind of political innuendos is dangerous and should be avoided. Governor Fashola, commenting on the speech puts it so eloquently when he said that, he saw an angry man who was blaming everyone but himself.
At this juncture, I will like to turn my attention to my great state, Rivers State. I will like to congratulate the indomitable and resolute fighters in the persons of Governor Ameachi, Dr Peterside, Senator Abe and APC members in the Rivers State House of Assembly, for defending the constitutional rights and resources of the people of Rivers State, in the face of incessant provocations, blackmail and attacks by political sycophants who wanted to usurp the constitutional power of the democratically elected Governor Rotimi Ameachi. Because of his unyielding stand to protect Rivers State interest, Soku and Etche oil wells have been given to Bayelsa and Abia States respectively. But I am very optimistic that with the election of Dr Peterside as the next Governor of Rivers State, justice will surely prevail, and Soku and Etche’s oil wells will eventually returned to Rivers State.
I was very elated and was full of emotion when the PDP Presidential nominee won the general election in 2011. I was overwhelmed with joy because, it was the first time in the history of our Nation, a son of the Niger Delta was elected to the highest office of the land. On the day of his inauguration, I had a barbecue party for my friends and my staff at both Alma Care Newcastle Ltd and BW Superstore, to celebrate this historic moment with me.
My tribal and geopolitical sentiments and euphoria have been fulfilled. But most importantly, times have change. Our Nation is effectively at war against Boko Haram, corruption has risen to an unprecedented level and the economy is in fact on life support.
I will like to remind you of the statement the PDP Presidential nominee made recently. He stated that some people see themselves as elder statesmen including ex-ministers, while in fact they are actually motor park boys. And as we know, Motor Park is not only a place where people get taxis or buses to make intercity or long distance journeys. Motor Park is a highly disorganised and overcrowded place, where pushing and shoving, wheeling and dealing etc are seen as the norm. My brothers and sisters, I will like to ask you to juxtapose Dr Peterside, the Governorship candidate for the APC and the PDP nominee. When you take a look at Dr Peterside, what you see is a highly competent man with tremendous abilities. A first class Member of the House Representative as well as a man that has been fighting for the progress and development of Rivers State.
Now when you take a CLOSE HARD LOOK at the PDP Governorship nominee, the only thing that can be seen is the motor park boy, which the outgoing President Jonathan was referring to in his speech. This is one of the rare occasion in which I find myself agreeing with the President. My fellow Rivers indigenes, although my position is crystal clear, but I will like remind you again to TAKE A HARD LOOK at the PDP nominee and choose Dr Peterside. Otherwise, you may find that the song Nigeria Jaga Jaga, is a side show compared to the resulting song, Rivers State Wologi Wologi.
And of course the PDP train has derailed. Please come out enmass and vote for APC candidates in all the elections, so that together, we can defeat Boko Haram, fight corruption with sincerity and salvage our Nation from imminent economic meltdown. All in all, as we are in usual and uncertain times, we need competent and courageous leadership of Dr Peterside and General Buhari for Governor and President respectively.
God Bless Nigeria
