FG Faults Indonesia Over Execution Of 2 Nigerians

Jonathan-Goodluck2
The federal government has protested against the execution by firing squad of two Nigerian nationals by the Indonesian government after they had been convicted on drug related offences.

According to a statement released by Mr Ogbole Amedu Ode, the spokesperson for the Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja, the execution of the two nationals, Solomon Chibuike Okafor and Daniels Enemuo, happened, despite pleas for clemency by the federal government and even the National Assembly.
The statement reads in part, “The executions were carried out despite persistent pleas for clemency made by the federal government, including the National Assembly. The executions, had taken place against the grain of the excellent relations that subsist between Nigeria and Indonesia.”
To this end, the envoy of Indonesia has been summoned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali so that a formal complaint may be lodged.
Meanwhile, the statement also continued Nigeria’s appeal for clemency on behalf of 12 other Nigerian citizens who are all on death row on drug related charges.
Furthermore, the federal government seeks to condole with the families of the two executed Nigerians and also put out a warning to her citizens to desist from engaging in drug trafficking as this carries capital punishment in several countries of which Indonesia happens to be one of them.
Also executed with the Nigerians were two women, one each from Indonesia and Vietnam, two Brazilians, and one Dutch national.
