Abdulsalami Abubakar2

The former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, yesterday said that all right thinking Nigerians must support the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East if the war must be won.

Abubakar said this through former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Abdullrahman Dambazzau, during the presentation of two books published by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, at Nigerian Air Force Conference Centre, Abuja.

He said the books titled: “Issues in the Mobilisation of Public Support for Military Operation in Nigeria,” and “The Voice and Battles of the Nigerian Military”, are very timely for country’s war against terror.
He said, “I am very highly impressed by the efforts of the author. Public support is very important, which is tied to popular support. To be able to conduct a successful counter-terrorism operations, you need public support and you need somebody to communicate your actions to the members of the public and that’s the role Olukolade has played.

“You also need to manage the public relations, which relates with excellent media management and this Olukolade has done well”.  In his speech, the guest of honour and permanent secretary, Ministry of Defence, Alhaji Aliyu Ismaila, said that “it is imperative that the military has the civilian support in times of war and this is the role Olukolade is playing.
