Tanker Accident Kills 2, Injures 4 In Niger

Two teenagers were yesterday confirmed dead , four others injured and 30 houses and 22 shops burnt down as a petroleum tanker lost control and crashed near a micro finance bank at Kagara the headquarters of Rafi local government area of Niger state Thursday night.

LEADERSHIP weekend gathered that the accident occurred when the tanker’s brakes failed and veered off the main road thereby running over houses and vehicles along the ever busy Kalgara road.
Confirming the disaster, the assistant zonal coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Niger state, Mallam Musa Abdulrazaq said that the truck lost control and ran into a micro finance bank and caught fire.

He stated that the two teenagers who lost their lives were locked up in a shop by their parents which made it difficult for any body to rescue them in the process.
He disclosed that 11 vehicles and 11 motorcycles were burnt, adding that NEMA had already visited the scene of the accident to assess the casualty level.
According to him, four people injured were treated and discharged from the hospital.
He stated that the tanker, was carrying diesel product , loaded from Lagos to the northern part of the country lost control crashed in to the bank and burst flames.
Also speaking, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Bala Elkana said the command had contacted fire service which immediately brought the situation under control to eschew extensive damage.
He stated that the corpses of the teenagers were deposited at the general hospital Kalgara before it was released yesterday for burial in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
