N300bn Fraud: EFCC Operatives Quiz Modu Sheriff

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff
The former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, was yesterday grilled by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Wuse II, Abuja headquarters of the anti-graft agency.

As governor of Borno State, it was alleged that part of the N300billion his administration received from the federation account during the period may not have been judiciously used.

Sheriff, who arrived EFFC’s premises at about 6pm, was being interrogated over his roles in alleged cases of misappropriation, embezzlement of funds and abuse of office while he was governor of the state between 2003 and 2011.
The ex-governor is still being detained as at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at press time.
Recall that following the former governor’s failure to honour EFCC’s invitation, the anti-graft agency had on Monday, May 25, 2015, threatened that it will declare Sheriff wanted over the allegations against him.
According to the anti-graft agency, Modu Sheriff had been summoned to appear before the commission on Thursday, April 23, at 10am for questioning but he did not honour the invitation, hence the commission was set to exercise one of its options, which is declaring him wanted. Apparently borrowing a leaf from former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, who surrendered himself to the agency after months of self-exile on Monday, Sheriff appeared before EFCC’s panel of interrogators before being declared wanted.

According to a reliable source close to the commission, Sheriff was still being quizzed as at about 7:55pm last night.
